1. Begin on a Sunday morning, after a bath, before eating.
2. Wash the pendant in clean water and hold it briefly above a ghee lamp until the flame warms it.
3. Hold it and set your intention for what you want to leave behind from the year just past.
4. Chant Om Kleem Namah eleven times, then put it on.
5. Wear it on a red thread or a chain, against the skin, with the bead sitting over the heart.
6. Take it off before a full bath and keep it away from strong soap, which dulls the capping.

Its three deep clefts read clearly even at a distance, so this one works worn over a collar rather than hidden beneath it. A plain red thread suits an Agni bead better than a bright polished chain.

Sunday is the traditional start here, the Sun being the graha given to this bead, and a sunrise first wearing is preferred. Tuesday is the alternative many follow, since Agni's fiery character is often placed with Mangal instead. Either is accepted, provided the bead is taken up before the day's first meal.

The three faces are read as the three ritual fires of Vedic practice and as Agni's own number, and this is the bead the texts point to for clearing what has already been done rather than shaping what is to come. Three-faced beads are reasonably common on Himalayan trees but far scarcer than five-faced ones, so a Nepali three is not a filler bead. The clefts are natural growth lines in the shell; on a carved imitation they show flat walls and unnaturally even spacing, which a real bead never does.
