1. Begin on a Wednesday morning, after a bath.
2. Rinse the pendant in clean water and rest it briefly on a book, or before a Saraswati image if you keep one.

4. Chant Om Hreem Namah eleven times, then put it on.
5. Wear it on a green or white thread, or on a chain short enough for the bead to sit at the throat.
6. Keep it on while studying, take it off before bathing, and wipe the cap dry after wear.

A short cord that holds the bead at the throat is the usual choice for a study bead, since it stays out of the way when you are leaning over a desk. Green thread is the conventional pairing for anything ruled by Mercury.
