2. 2. Light a ghee lamp beside her on the first day and offer a few grains of unbroken rice and a little haldi.
3. 3. Offer fresh grass, jaggery or a banana, the customary offerings made to a cow.
4. 4. Chant Om Shreem Kamadhenave Namah, traditionally 108 times. Households that keep her alongside a Lakshmi murti often use Om Shreem Mahalakshmiyei Namah instead.
5. 5. Gopashtami, which falls in Kartik, and Akshaya Tritiya are the days traditionally kept for honouring cows.
6. 6. Offer sweets or fresh fruit, perform the aarti with a ghee lamp and distribute the prasad.

Kamdhenu, also called Surabhi, appears in the Puranas as one of the treasures that rose from the churning of the ocean, a cow described as giving whatever is asked of her. She is not usually worshipped as a deity in her own right but kept as an emblem of the cow's place in Indian household life, and in Vastu she is set in the north as an auspicious presence. The calf beside her is what distinguishes this form: the pair together stands for nurture and for what continues after the giver.
