Customer Reviews
Real, verified reviews from our spiritual community
- The lighter 2.9 inch casting — At 152 grams this is the slimmer of the two Vishwakarma murtis in the range, easier to keep on a desk or a shelf than on a bench.
- Vishwakarma, the celestial architect — The Vedic deity of making and measuring, kept by those whose work is design and construction.
- For the office and the studio — Suited to a design office, a drawing table, a consultancy or a study, where the heavier casting suits a workshop floor.
- Vishwakarma Puja — Observed in mid-September, when instruments and drawings are set aside for the day along with tools and machines.
- A professional gift — Given to architects, engineers and draughtsmen at a new practice, a promotion or an office opening.
- Vishwakarma is kept at the place of work rather than in the family mandir: the office, the studio, the drawing room of a practice, or a study.
- Face him east or north, and place him on the north or east side of the room where you can.
- Set him on a raised shelf or at the back of the desk rather than in the working area, so he is not moved every day.
- Keep him clear of the waste bin, the washbasin, footwear and the space under a staircase.
- Air-conditioning and handling both dull brass. A dry cloth is enough day to day; a full clean before Vishwakarma Puja each year is the traditional rhythm.
- 1. Wash the murti in clean water before first placement, dry it fully and set it on a clean yellow or red cloth.
- 2. On the day of installation, clean the instruments and equipment of the workplace as well; they are honoured alongside the deity in this observance.
- 3. Offer haldi, kumkum, unbroken rice and marigold, with a coconut and betel leaves placed before the murti.
- 4. Chant Om Vishwakarmaya Namah, traditionally 108 times.
- 5. Vishwakarma Puja falls in mid-September on Kanya Sankranti and is the principal day of the year for this deity.
- 6. Offer sweets and fruit as bhog, perform the aarti and share the prasad with colleagues.
Vishwakarma is invoked in the Rig Veda as the one who fashions and joins, the maker who gives form to what the other gods conceive. Later Puranic accounts credit him with the city of Dwarka, the palace of Lanka, the Jagannath chariots at Puri and the vimanas of the gods, which makes him the patron of architecture and of every craft that shapes material. His annual puja, held around the middle of September, is directed at the instruments of work as much as at the deity, and is observed across workshops, factories and design offices in India.
