1. Begin on a Monday morning, after a bath.
2. Pass it through dhoop or sandalwood smoke for a minute to cleanse it, and keep it away from water.

4. Chant Om Namah Shivaya eleven times, then put it on.
5. Wear on either wrist; the left is the traditional choice for calm.
6. Take it off before bathing and sleeping, and rub a little sandalwood or mustard oil into the rudraksha beads every few months so they do not dry and crack.
